Cash4Gold Values Stanley Cup at $7,500
The Pittsburgh Penguins won the final two games of a seven game series against the Detroit Red Wings to win the NHL’s prized championship trophy, the Stanley Cup.
According to Wikipedia:
The original bowl was made of silver and has a dimension of 18.5 centimeters (7.28 inches) in height and 29 centimeters (11.42 inches) in diameter. The current Stanley Cup, topped with a copy of the original bowl, is made of silver and nickel alloy. Today, it has a height of 89.54 centimeters (35.25 inches) and weighs 15.5 kilograms (34.5 lb).
These details are important when assessing the Cup’s melt value. The Penguins, after all, are a franchise that is not immune from financial struggles. Particularly during this global recession, one might wonder whether Pittsburgh, even after taking in the windfall of an NHL championship, may look to bring in whatever profits it can.
After all, the franchise twice filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy, most recently in 1998. Further financial difficulties forced the Penguins to trade away fan favorites Jaromir Jagr and Alexei Kovalev, as well as entertain offers to sell the franchise as recently as the 2006-07 season.
Now that they hold the Stanley Cup, things appear to be better. But in the event, in these tough economic times, the Penguins are in need of a few extra bucks, they may want to know how much that trophy is worth.
Cash4Gold’s expert appraisers studied photographs and details of the trophy to determine it is worth approximately $7,500 in silver. Cash4Gold is America’s number one buyer of gold and silver, and has executed more than 800,000 transactions since 2007. Of course, Cash4Gold fully realizes that the trophy has far more sentimental value than it does material value.
"The Pittsburgh Penguins prevailed in a great series, and I don't expect the team to send the Stanley Cup to Cash4Gold," said Jeff Aronson, CEO of Cash4Gold. "However, if any of their fans or any other Americans want to tap the value of old or broken gold or silver jewelry lying around the house, then now would be a great time to send it to Cash4Gold. We're buying."
Will Pittsburgh send their prized trophy to Cash4Gold? Probably not. But given the franchise’s history, they may want to cash in while they can.
You and the Penguins can get more from Cash4Gold now than ever before. Cash4Gold is currently running a Gold Rush promotion that offers customers an additional 20 percent payout for precious metals shipped to the company before July 4, 2009.
Cash4Gold's Gold Rush campaign has been widely advertised on television, and is the focal point of the industry-leading company's mission to buy $100 million worth of gold before the long Independence Day holiday weekend.
